Pompeji und seine Ruinen Geführte Tour ab Rom

This was a place I had wanted to visit since I was a child. It did not let me down. The site was much bigger than I expected and we were only able to see a portion in a few hours. My suggestion would be to visit early if stopping by in the summer. We went midafternoon and the sun and humidity were brutal. There is also very little shade in the site. I would certainly like to see more of the site, but a few hours were all that we could handle in the sun. It is also as crowded as you might expect. Overall, a great experience!

We booked our tickets for a day with 9am entry before we arrived in Italy. Arrived at the gates shortly before entry time and walked in with no waiting time. The morning is best if you can arrive right on opening time as you can walk along the main street with very few people as lots of visitors had to line up at the entrance to buy tickets. Visiting in July in very hot weather you must be sure to take water with you and wear decent shoes as the paths/roads are very uneven. There is very little shade to shelter in. The cafe a bit down the main street has toilets and it offers shaded areas outside. We spent 3 hours walking the park and still have lots to see hopefully on another visit. Well worth taking the time out of your holiday to visit Pompeii with Mount Vesuvius overlooking it. It brings home the enormity of their situation all these years ago. Really enjoyed our visit.

An incredible place to visit and a true highlight of our trip. Walking through the ancient streets of Pompeii is a fascinating and unforgettable experience. The site is remarkably well preserved, and there is so much history to discover. Highly recommended. We had an amazing guide and we highly recommend having a guide.

My husband and I visited Pompeii last August, and the scale of the site surprised us more than anything. I knew it was large, but I didn't realize how much walking was involved until we were there. We spent almost five hours exploring and still didn't see everything. What impressed me most was being able to walk through actual streets, houses, and public spaces rather than just viewing ruins from a distance. July was quite hot, so bringing water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes is essential. Some areas were busy, but once we moved away from the main routes, it felt much quieter. If you enjoy history and don't mind a lot of walking, it's a fascinating place to spend a day.

Visited here as part of a cruise excursion, it was top of my bucket list. Was disappointed though that it is not particularly clean or well organized in the small museum area. Also, I do not recommend visiting in August - too hot and very crowded! Our tour guide did her best but the high number of tours meant guides were overlapping and it was hard to see or understand much. No seating or shade. Avoid in high season.

Fascinating tour of Pompeii. Worth going with a guide or an organised trip (as we did) as they bring the place alive. Get a real understanding of what life in Roman Pompeii was like. Also an understanding of the destruction and devastation caused by the volcanic ash which covered the town. The Forum and domus houses were my favourite. Seeing the plaster cast model of the lady who was buried in ash with her dress pulled over her head for protection brought home the fear and helplessness that must have been felt by the inhabitants.

With the reputation of the site I had high expectations. The site delivered as all was fascinating with the history and the scenery. It is a good walk , but well worth it.

Only had 2 hours to spend here, so paid for the express entry (very rude young lady at the admissions desk which was not a nice start and unnecessary). Children under 18 are free, but you must have proof of ID for them or you pay full price. Did not have a guide, reading the info felt fine. You can download the audio information. Huge area, lots of walking and uneven terraine in parts. Extremely hot and humid, huge crowds, very busy. Vast, incredible history which is beyond belief. The museums are very well put together, showing the people, animals and murals discovered. Its a must see and an honour to be able to experience pompei and its story.

DO NOT GO TO THE RUINS!!! If you’re like me, an English speaker wanting to enjoy the history of pompeii then this is not for you. One of my family’s biggest problem was the staff. They were horrible, genuinely some of the rudest people we have ever come across and spent the whole time screaming at guests (not us) for mere accidents (like leaning on a wall) or not doing anything at all. I watched them make a small child cry because he touched something. A small “don’t touch please” would have been sufficient as what looked like a 4/5 year old is not strong enough to break a wall taht was made thousands of years ago. Also unpopular opinion but you can not get annoyed at guests for not speaking your language. In my country, we are always very respectful for anyone speaking a different language and want to help them. Especially if your working in a “tourist attraction” you should be able to at least speak some words of the most popular language in the world or better yet get out google translate and work from there.

We took a day trip from Rome with stop in Sorrento plus a Lemoncello distillery, before we enjoy Pompeji site. What an experience to see, and such good guides. Do yourself the favour and go see it, a trip back in the past.

It was pretty amazing. Just kept saying wow. Wow. wow. Very hot in late July. Seriously lacks shade. umbrella (for shade) was recommended. Water is easy to find get (fill your water bottle over and over), but not all that much to eat. just a few sandwiches fruit salad and various drinks. So if you have diet issues, you could be in a pinch. Was pretty impressed to see so much of it. It was also very tiring, walking around for say 4-5 hours in labarinthic organization in hot sun.

Second visit here and lots we hadn’t seen the first time, fascinating place a day wasn’t long enough could go back again! Lovely time

This place is incredible. Walking down the streets and going into the houses of the people alive at the time and looking at the decorations on the walls that they looked at is an amazing experience and very moving. Go early (in summer especially) and get a guided tour.

This is the most/visited site in Italy for a reason. They are still excavating to this day and one-third of Pompeii is still buried. Highly recommend you tour with a guide and small group. Otherwise the enormity of Pompeii is overwhelming. A knowledgeable guide will truly make your experience better, so spring for it.

Fascinating and immersive experience. We went at about 10am on a weekday at the end of July and bought an "express" ticket at the Anfiteatro entrance (There are several entrances and you can buy tickets at all of them), there were no queues but if there were this section is all in the shade. Adult express ticket was 20 euros and kids free. I wouldn't recommend prebooking. The main Pompei train station was 10 minutes walk through modern pompei town with lots of cafes shops and tour booking agencies. The agencies have staff outside hustling people walking to the site and telling lies about queues and closed entrances etc etc, just walk by and nod. We didn't go with a guide and glad that we didn't as the guides I heard seemed to be repeating information that was given on the display boards on various sections. Some of the guides seemed unpleasant and pushy too. I think it would ruin the experience having to keep up with the group and not be able to go off and explore. Very clear and easy to navigate site with the main paths well marked and signposts to facilities. Just pick the parts you think look interesting from the map or what you read online and find it yourself, you will never see it all in 1 day anyway. The café is badly organised with nobody clearing tables, staff shouting and being rude, people occupying tables for long periods without purchase. Food and drink mediocre. The worst museum café experience I have ever seen
