Excursion d'une journée en petit groupe à Amalfi et Positano au départ de Rome

Positano is a beautiful place, a pretty village in a paradisiacal landscape, with its colorful houses nestled into the cliffs of the mountains overlooking a sea of ​​clear blue. A true paradise, if you go by car like I did it's hell, parking is like accepting being robbed, with parking lots charging an average of €10 an hour. If you go by boat, what happened that day can happen to you, when due to the waves the boat couldn't dock. Getting around Positano is also hell because of the number of tourists, the houses where nobody lives anymore and which are all B&Bs or hotels, the shops are beautiful too, but there are only shops for tourists, and it's difficult to have the time to appreciate them properly, and we came in May thinking it would be a good month. I no longer have the patience for that type of tourism.

We simply loved our day trip to this gorgeous, sculptured seaside town. Positano covers a small but steep footprint and offers unique amazing views, especially from the higher elevations of the town. The place is packed with great restaurants, shops and small attractions, including a Roman villa and the immaculate Santa Maria Assunta cathedral. I would highly suggest you carefully plan your day here as getting around can be quite taxing. Arrival by road is quite problematic due to poor parking options and heavy bus traffic. I recommend to arrive by ferry and walk up to the town center, enjoying the great sea views and striking architecture along the way. Walking is by far the best option for this popular and often overcrowded small town. For something fun, do the "Rick Steves stroll". Pay the small fare and board a local town bus at the city center and then get off at the Botteghella stop. Then stroll down the narrow lanes toward the beach. It is all downhill, goes through the quiet residential part of the town, and is loaded with fun discoveries as you stroll down to the beach. You will make a memory that very few people get to experience in this lovely but very busy place.

A beautiful village with good food and crazy traffic. It was like going back in time 100 years and I loved it.

Truly picture postcard pretty but best seen from the sea without setting foot to preserve that impression. Visiting the town itself in May wasn't a great experience. Hoards of tourists, inevitably hundreds of steps which wouldn't have been a big issue for us but for the sky high prices, shops full of the same low quality but highly priced goods, gawdy ceramics with ridiculous price tags, no room to move on the streets, over crowded (small) beach packed with rows of sunbeds. Couldn't wait to leave. Shame.

This was the first stop on a full day of visits so only managed a small sample of what's available. First impressions as with most parts of this coastline it is glorious, parking and traffic are as expected, but away from the main road down to the sea it's great.Lots of shops and places to relax and the main beach area had plenty to offer. Word of warning places are steep and lots of steps down and back, plus if you came in a coach party be wary of the coach parks location.Very busy and would imagine its quite full on at the height of summer.

Famously pretty town utterly destroyed by hordes of tourists pouring off boats every 5 minutes. Modest bars and restaurants charging sky-high prices (€12 for a beer) and endless tourist tat. Heaving in October, I shudder to think about what it's like in high summer. Best to get your photo from the boat

We visited the place as part of a guided Amalfi tour. The city is nicely situated at hill slope. The time (1 hour) we had to visit the center was totasly sufficient.

Incredible location but the streets are narrow and crowded. Many steps and steep slopes to navigate and not for the elderly of infirm. However it is so picturesque and quaint must be missed.

We had a great time in Positano, staying for 5 nights. We did not have a rental car, riding the ferry to the various towns along the coast which was really the way to do it. Positano is a fun and vibrant place. A couple of tips. We stayed high up, nearly to the top row of homes. There were A LOT! of stairs to climb up and down. We found it easier to just walk the road rather than climb stairs. Longer distance but much less effort required. The food in Positano was very average everywhere we went. We experienced much better food in Amalfi, Capri, Salerno. Grottino Azzuro was our favorite restaurant in Positano but it was a hike getting there! So check with the restaurants to see if they provide a free shuttle. We found that out too late.

Positano is a pretty town from a distance, a great photo op. But walking in the town, even in the "off-season" month of October is not easy. It's crowded with tourists, and filled with shops. We still liked it all well enough, and we are glad we didn't come in July.

Came to Positano in a day trip and was left underwhelmed. It is overhyped and over crowded. The streets are too narrow for the volume of vehicles driving through the town. It is extremely hilly and the beaches are very unappealing with grey sand and rocks. Would not recommend to families with kids nor people with mobility issues. Expensive prices for food etc

This town is pretty but that is the only really pleasant thing that I can say about it. There are actually not many shops , as it seems that the hills are primarily hotels and airbnb’s. I arrived by ferry from Sorrento and the ferry ride was probably the best thing about the visit. Restaurants are very expensive (30 euro per plate , plus drinks and service) and most serve almost the exact same restaurant. Many will not let you share a dish or simply stop for drinks. There is very few places to sit in shade and enjoy the beauty and the beach is quite small and very crowded in July. I’d say skip it unless you are booking a tour to the blue grotto.
