Conveniently located right by the cathedral, quiet space, friendly staff! The rooms are small, but that’s to be expected given you’re on top of a mountain and space is limited. Bed was comfortable, we had her own little balcony overlooking the hotel patio. Everything was clean! My husband and I had to leave very early in the morning to catch a train back to Rome and they were nice enough to packus a little to go breakfast bag. We only had breakfast there the first morning, which was good.

Hotel was nice and in a good location. Breakfast was good. Loved that there was place to park the car, however, parking a car is a little tight and someone scraped the front of our car. The town itself was a great place to see, not too crowded with great shopping.

A beautiful facade is somewhat spoilt by the choice of black and white lines of bricks for the walls. We arrived early morning just stopping for breakfast but what a find! Drive up, up, and up into the old city and you won’t be disappointed; the cathedral and the square are beautiful, the views across the valley below breathtaking, and the city with its stores, cafe’s, and interesting streets worth exploration. Don’t go on Wednesdays though as many stores and cafes are closed.

The sheer size of the Duomo ( pronounced Dwoh-mho) is impressive. The term just means the main church or cathedral for a town. It has some art that inspired Michael Angelo’s paintings on the Sistine Chapel (hint: see my separate review for the Vatican). Orvieto is an interesting small town on a plateau with great views and lots of cafes, stores, restaurants, and such. A great place for a day trip or overnight visit to get out of the hustle and bustle of Rome. Just a 90 minute train ride. Tip: if the train platform is listed as “1EST” or “2EST” these are regional platforms to the left of platform 1 at the termini in Rome. About 5 minute walk past Platform 1 (at least as of May 2026).

The hotel was very clean and the personnel very polite. It was a very basic Italian breakfast with fruit, pastries and bread, scrambled eggs, yogurt, cereal, and different kinds of ham and cheeses. The hotel is just a few meters from the city center and they helped us get transportation from and to the train station and also to and from Civita di Bagnoregio. I don’t give it 5 stars because the WiFi was not working for the days we were there, but it was a technical problem, not because the hotel doesn’t have it. The day we checked out the WiFi was working.

Just by looking at this majestic 14th Century Cathedral I can justify a five point rating, with the facade covered in coloured artwork and intricate reliefs. So entering the Cathedral is superfluous for the rating. This is lucky, because the entrance carries a substantial fee. Also the Duomo of Orvieto is seen by the authorities more as a museum than a church, diluting the religious function.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Duomo. The staff went out of their way to help us, even physically guiding our way to the hotel car park when we were lost. The location was perfect for visiting Orvieto. The staff also provided us with a great restaurant recommendation. We highly recommend the hotel.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Duomo. The location is unbeatable, just steps from the beautiful cathedral and within walking distance of everything in Orvieto. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. If you’re driving, the private parking service makes visiting the historic center much easier. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Orvieto.

Exceptional location near the Duomo and close to the main street of shops and restaurants. Comfortable bed and pillows for a terrific night's sleep and exceedingly clean. Plus, the breakfast was terrific. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it because the price point was very reasonable when I stayed so I thought it would feel more "budget" but it did not. Highly recommend.

Small elegant hotel with views of the duomo and easy walking distance to all that the beautiful town of Orvieto has to offer. Nice size rooms, great breakfast and a quiet patio for a drink before heading out for dinner. Maybe the most pleasant and helpful staff I’ve seen. Everyone goes out of their way to help in any way they can
